Matthew Kam

Google for Education
Dr Matthew Kam co-leads Google for Education’s user experience (UX) research efforts to invent the future of teaching and learning around the world. Prior to Google, Kam was a senior researcher with the American Institutes for Research’s International Development, Evaluation and Research program, and was previously an Assistant Professor of Human-Computer Interaction at Carnegie Mellon University. He has led research on and taught user experience design, the psychology of learning, mobile learning, educational games and ICT4D. He is best known as a pioneer in designing mobile phone applications that have improved literacy in developing regions, and was invited by UNESCO to author a case study on this topic. He is co-founder and advisor to Learning Yogi, a social enterprise that aims to build sustainable technology solutions for improving 21st century learning among low-income children throughout the world. His work draws on his diverse formal training, which spans computer science (PhD and BS degrees), education (PhD minor) and economics (BA degree), from the University of California, Berkeley
